MEGUKO is a NGO organized by the students of Sophia University.We support the education of children in India and the Philippines.Our organization is established in 1975 and we are celebrating the 35th anniversary in 2010.

Policy

We aspire to serve for "the poorest of the poor"so that every child who is endowed by unlimited potential has an opportunity for education.We believe that it is the education that solves various social and economic problems such as economic poverty and that it will enhance their potential and will guide children to a brighter future. Therefore, we provide an opportunity for education to children who are not able to have chance to go to school.

Philosophy and principles of "MEGUKO"

As the same human family,we provide an opportunity for education to children who are not able to have the chance to go to school because of economic problems..

We give the chilfren our financial support which we think that they truly need.Also, we leave the choice of the project up to the local institution.

Through the involvement in our activities, we look back at our own life style.

Publications

MEGUKO journals 4times a year (March, May, November, and December) 600 copies per journal Reporting MEGUKO activities to the supporters of MEGUKO
News Letters Reporting MEGUKO activities in Japan to the schools in India and the Philippines
Receipt Notice Postcards Sending Thank you cards to the donators, telling them that we received their donation

Bazaars: Selling used books and magazines on campus for three days every month
Charity Concerts: A concert by a professional musician on campus every year in December

Activities outside Japan

Donations
We use our earnings from bazaars to manage MEGUKO. Therefore, all of the donations from the donors of MEGUKO are sent directly to the schools in India and the Philippines with our own hands, without passing them through the government or other organizations. The local people, mainly social workers, will do the investigation and the management, so the donations will be spent in the best way for the children.

Study Tours
Every year, MEGUKO members visit schools in India and the Philippines at our own expense. We visit India and the Philippines every other year. The purpose of our visit is to inspect the administration condition of the schools and to communicate with the children.Other people who are interested but are not MEGUKO members can also participate, so please contact us.
